Fire Status Update

July 10, 2018

Hello {FIRST_NAME|Flash Memory Partner},

Update on fire forensics for Flash Memory Summit - July 10, 2018

The investigation of last year's fire continues. And, unfortunately, a resolution has still not been reached. Testing on twelve bags of detritus from the fire gave ambiguous results as to the actual source of the fire. The fire was electrical in origin, but the actual source of ignition could not be determined even with micro-scopic analyses of the residue.

With the lack of closure, our insurers have decided to conduct a second set of forensic tests on the flammability of the fabrics in the booth and in banners affixed to it. Testing to see if the fabrics meet California Fire Retardant regulations must be conducted by one of only two (I'm told) certified labs in the state. At this time protocols are being established in conjunction with our fire engineering technicians and lab personnel. (Protocols for burn tests apparently are more robust because the evidence must be destroyed as a part of the analyses.)

I share and understand the frustrations regarding the glacial pace of this process. Compared to the technologies we embrace and the speed with which changes occur, insurance companies and the legal system are slothful! Until the new forensics tests are conducted, and a resolution reached I am unlikely to have much more to report. At that time, I will share what I can. As always, we sincerely appreciate your patience.

Cordially,
Chip
