Lifetime Achievement Award - 2016

Kinam KimDr. Kinam Kim was honored with the 2016 Flash Memory Summit Lifetime Achievement Award for driving the development and business efforts to bring Samsung to undisputed leadership of the NAND flash business, along with his inventions in planar and 3D NAND, and in high density storage.

At the time of the award, Dr. Kim was President of the Semiconductor Business at Samsung Electronics, while also holding the position as head of the System LSI business of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions Division. The organizations under his oversight encompassed the memory and logic businesses, and Samsung’s semiconductor R&D Center and semiconductor manufacturing center. Dr. Kim has also served as President and CEO of Samsung Display, President of SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology), and CTO of Samsung.

Dr. Kim’s contributions to the flash memory industry since 2000 include critical work with 24-, 32- and 48-layer 3D NAND devices, charge-trapping NAND Flash, and high density NOR and NAND devices. His other work in the memory industry includes PRAM and MRAM inventions and research.

Dr. Kim is a foreign member of the US National Academy of Engineering, an IEEE Fellow and a Samsung Fellow. He is a member of both the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Science of Korea. He has published more than 480 technical papers in journals, including several papers in Nature and Science, and he holds more than 130 patents.
